Suspect walked away from mental institution days before murder

WALKER, Mich. (WZZM)- We are learning new, disturbing details about the man who police say murdered another guest at the Motel 6 in Walker.

52-year old Jack Jacqmain walked away from a Kent County mental facility just days before the murder.

He was captured on surveillance video from a gas station nearby. He is seen wearing a black t-shirt, brown leather jacket, jean shorts and tan work boots.

On Friday, Walker police warned the public that Jacqmain has knowledge of the trucking business and may be seeking a way out of town.  "Well, just in case he tried to get a ride out of the county, the state, to get the truckers involved.  We want to let them know not to pick-up hitchhikers," says Capt. Jason Howe.

Jacqmain is accused of stabbing a man to death at the Motel 6 earlier this week.  A manhunt has been on ever since.  Capt. Howe believes Jacqmain is still in the area.

Palmer Service celebrates 25 years of business in Walker

WALKER, Mich. (WZZM)- An auto repair shop in Walker celebrated a milestone Friday despite the industry's recent downfall.  Palmer Service opened for business exactly 25 years ago.

Friday the employees celebrated the anniversary with a surprise party for the shop's owners.  Palmer Service is a locally owned shop.  The owners say good customer services has kept them in business.

Owner Bill Palmer says, "When you first start out, they say the first five years, you know if you make it past that, then you have a better chance.  I went past five years and just kept going."

Owner Dianna Palmer says, "Bill is a very honest person also. For a mechanic, you can ask his customers, that's why they come back.  He's honest, he doesn't over charge and he doesn't fix anything that doesn't need to be fixed."

Dianna Palmer says the couple plan to keep the shop going until they are old.

Jack Jacqmain is wanted for the murder at a Walker Motel 6

WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) - Silent Observer is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in a murder last Wednesday.

Jack Jacqmain, 52, is wanted for the stabbing of Mark Moore, 31, of Indianapolis at the Motel 6 on Alpine Avenue in Walker.  A few days earlier Jacqmain, an ex-convict with psychological problems, violated his parole when he walked out of a mental treatment facility.

Police believe he was hiding at the motel. Detectives call the attack on Moore, "unprovoked."

Jacqmain robbed a bank in 1992 and has been in and out of prison ever since because he keeps violating his parole.  If he is caught and convicted of murder he could be sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.

Walker Police say they believe Jacqmain is still in the area.  See the attached photos for Jacqmain's previous mug shot and surveillance videos from a Walker gas station last week.

Reward offered for information on Walker stabbing suspect

WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) -Silent Observer is now offering a $1,000 reward for information leading them to 52-year-old Jack Howard Jacqmain. Jacqmain has eluded law enforcement since Wednesday. Jacqmain is believed to have stabbed 31 year-old Mark Moore at the Motel 6 in Walker.

"A couple of the leads have taken us to the Ionia and Lowell areas as well as Lansing area," said Walker Police Det. Dan Raap.

A stake out in Ionia this weekend was unsuccessful.

"We had a tip that he would show up at that location as it turned out he did not turn up at the location. We are still looking for him ,and we are considering that area still to be active, " Raap said.

Law enforcement says Jacqmain has no ties to his family which makes him hard to track.

"We have to really search areas such as homeless shelters, local motels, low budget motels and places like that," Raap said.
