New mural takes shape at 3 Mile Project's community youth center

WALKER, Mich.—A well-known graffiti artist from Detroit is creating a giant mural for the 3 Mile Project’s community youth center.

Antonio ‘Shades’ Agee began working on the 15 foot by 100 foot mural on June 22.  He says the piece will be fashioned after the Bible verse John 10:10, in which Jesus says, “the thief comes only to kill and steal and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

“This is meant to beautify the community, which is what graffiti has always been about,” said Agee.

WALKER, Mich.—A Walker man’s mission to help restock the pantry at North End Community Church has been cut short.

According to the Miles for Meals Facebook page, Steve Karston was forced to end his 148 mile run through the mountains and desert early because of dehydration. Karston began the trek in Grand Junction, Colorado June 17.  The run was supposed to end in Moab, Utah, but temperatures topping 110 degrees took their toll on his body.

Karston was running with a number of other athletes, some of whom also had to drop out due to dehydration. In a video posted on Facebook, the 47-year-old assures supporters he is recovering fine.

Karston has completed 64 marathons since 1996.
