Kenowa Hills 2010 Graduate in 2011 USATF CC Junior Nationals

Reed Kamyszek, a 2010 graduate of Kenowa Hills High School, ran in the USATF Cross Country Junior Nationals in San Diego, California on Saturday, February 5, 2011., finishing 13th with a time of 25.28 for an 8K race.

Reed was part of a team from Syracuse University in New York where he attends college. Syracuse had 5 members finish in the top 20, a very good showing.

It was a nice break for the team to be able to run in 57 degree weather while breaking snow records back in Syracuse this year.

DNR Wildlife Chief Coming to Grand Rapids to Discuss Controversial Baiting Issue With Area Hunters

DNR Wildlife Chief, Russ Mason is going to appear in Grand Rapids at the Delta Plex Arena on Friday January 28th to present a Town Hall Meeting during the Huntin’ Time Expo regarding the very controversial ban on deer baiting throughout the Lower Peninsula. 

Michigan is experiencing a significant decrease in hunting license sales and hunter participation, many blame this on the baiting ban set forth by the Natural Resource Commission (NRC) a couple of years ago. Mason will address this along with other controversial regulations and game laws affecting area hunters at the Huntin’ Time Expo the last weekend in January.

“I’m very pleased to have Mason at the show to address these issues that have become increasingly controversial in recent years,” said show promoter Tom Antor.

4th annual Robert Kozminski memorial basketball games

GRAND RAIDS, Mich. - Kenowa Hills High School is hosting its 4th annual Robert Kozminski memorial basketball games on Saturday, January 29th at 6:30 pm. The first game will feature the Grand Rapids Fire Department against the Kenowa Hills teachers. Immediately following that game, the Grand Rapids Police Department will play against the KCSD.

The game will feature a 50/50 raffle and concessions to benefit the Wounded Warior Project.

KHPS - Wiercinski Has Record-Breaking Season in Diving

Congratulations to 11th grader Taylor Wiercinski, who competes for the Grandville/Kenowa Hills Swim and Dive Team. Taylor set a new Grandville/Kenowa Hills 11 dive record of 409.35. She also had an impressive first place finish at the OK RED Conference Championship with another record breaking score of 442.35. After finishing 3rd at the Division I Regional competition, Taylor placed 5th overall in the state at the 2010 MHSAA Girls Division I state championship. Great job to Taylor for competing and succeeding at such a high level!

KHPS - Pantoja Earns 1st Team All-Conference in Tennis

Congratulations to senior, Jose Pantoja, who was our First Singles player for the Knights this season. Jose earned All-Conference for the OK Black Division for his performance. Kudos to Jose and to Tennis Coach, Jim DeRidder.

KHPS cross country athletes qualify for state finals

Congratulations to Allison VanPatten, Blake Bitner, Jeff Bajema, and Russ Werra for their fine performances this season in leading our cross country teams. The boys team won an unprecedented five invitationals and was runner-up at two invites. The boys team also finished the season as OK Conference Champions. All runners pictured at the left were state qualifiers and participated in the Division 1 state meet in Jackson on November 6. At the state meet, the times for Jeff, Blake, and Russ were the 2nd best, 3rd best, and 4th best times respectively in school history. Congratulations to all cross country athletes and Coach Russ Gerbers.

KHHS Golfers Earn Recognition

Congratulations to senior Morgan Clay and junior Alyssa Kamyszek. Morgan earned first-team All-Conference honors and golfed well enough at Regionals to qualify for the Golf State Finals in October. Alyssa earned Honorable Mention All-Conference Honors for her performance in league play. Overall the Girl’s golf team finished 3rd in the Conference. Good Job Ladies!
