On Wednesday night, March 30, students from Cummings Elementary in Standale gathered at the Walker Ice and Fitness Center to enjoy a night of skating.  The children and their families could bring their skates, or for $3.00 could rent either figure or hockey-style skates, and spend time gliding around the surface with friends and fellow classmates.  Food was also provided for the time when legs got tired and that inevitable hunger struck.  A fun, incident free, time was had, and except for the occasional spill, everyone came away from the event with smiles on their faces, a few sore muscles, and maybe a bump or two.  Plus, I for one have not slept as soundly, as I did that night, in quite a while!

The Walker Recreation Department will be offering a Co-Ed Spring Soccer Program for boys and girls 5 through 13 years of age. Cost for the 5-6 year old age group is $20.00 for City of Walker residents and $30.00 for non-residents of the City of Walker. Cost for the 7-8 year old, 9-10 year old and 11-12-13 year old age groups is $30.00 for City of Walker residents and $40.00 for non-residents of the City of Walker. Practices will begin the week of April 11th and games will begin on Saturday, April 23, 2011.
Registration forms will be sent home with students at area schools and are also available at www.ci.walker.mi.us, at the Walker Ice and Fitness Center, and by clicking here. Registration must be made in person at the Walker Ice and Fitness Center, 4151 Remembrance Road, NW, during open business hours. Deadline for registration is February 26, 2011.

Congratulations to the gymnastics team for winning regionals with a score of 144.225. Megan Lee was the All Around champion with a score of 35.95. She also won the Bars with an 8.95. She was 3rd on Beam, 4th on Vault, and 5th on the Floor. Elizabeth Carpenter was 4th in the All Around. The team will compete at home on Friday, and Megan and Elizabeth will compete on Saturday, also, in the individual events.
