Pinkies Up for Kindergarteners' Elegant Day!

Pinkies Up for Kindergarteners' Elegant Day!

Kindergarteners attending Walker Charter Academy are spending this week learning about proper ettiquette. On Thursday, the boys escorted the girls on their arms to the gymnasium for the "Elegant Day" dance. The students paired up and danced the waltz while wearing their finest attire. After the dance, they returned to their classrooms for a Valentine’s Day party. The teachers decorated the classrooms elegantly so the students could practice using good manners. The boys pulled out chairs and properly hung up their coats. The girls practiced saying thank you. Walker Charter Academy’s Elegant Day has been a tradition at the school for fifteen years.

Jack Brooks, West Catholic Senior, to graduate at age 16

Jack Brooks, West Catholic Senior, to graduate at age 16

It’s not often I read about a student graduating at age 16 from high school but Jack Brooks, a senior at West Catholic High School in Grand Rapids, is doing just that this year.

Jack has some real accomplishments; captain of the boys swimming team, captain of Quiz Bowl team and president of student government. He plays piano in the jazz band, participates in marching band and sings in the Liturgical choir along with being a lector and volunteer at his home parish, St. Patrick’s in Parnell (Lowell).

Jack will study at the University of Notre Dame and was nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy. He plans to study aerospace/mechanical engineering.

Jack is the youngest senior at West Catholic. Good luck Jack, you are on your way!
