My Town Walker: Humane Society of West Michigan breaks ground on expansion Sept. 9

My Town Walker: Humane Society of West Michigan breaks ground on expansion Sept. 9

WALKER, Mich.— The Humane Society of West Michigan is growing to accomodate more cats.

On Tuesday, Sept. 9, the nonprofit organization will break ground on its Bissell cattery expansion project. The larger space will allow HSWM to accomodate the many felines it currently admits, which are often housed in several rooms. The space issue is often compounded during summer, when many litters of kittens are typically admitted.

The expansion project is named after Cathy and Mark Bissell, who have committed to donating $100,000 to renovate and improve the cattery as long as HSWM can raise $25,000 by Oct. 1.   So far, the nonprofit organization has raised $20,000.

Cathy Bissell will be on hand for the ground breaking ceremony, which will take place at 10 a.m. at HSWM, located at 3077 Wilson NW in Walker.  Visitors can tour the current cattery and enjoy refreshments.
