KHPS - October letter from the Superintendent

From: http://www.khps.org

Dear Friends,

We have had a great beginning to the school year. Reconfiguration is now in the rearview mirror, and we are moving forward with our emphasis on high levels of learning for each and every student. Each student has taken our MAP test, and we have real-time data on each student’s skills in reading and math. This allows teachers to prepare lessons that address student needs throughout the year. Standards will be tested again midway through the year and at the end of the year.

We have a few projects from this summer that will be finished up over the next couple of weeks. The playground at Central Elementary should be finished within the next few days. We are still on schedule with the installation of the air conditioning for daycare at the Early Education Center. It looks like we will be transitioning the program over to the Walker Station site in early November.

A message from the Mayor

Dear Citizens of Walker,

One of the privileges and responsibilities of being your Mayor is to represent you at various events that take place in our community. While I enjoy this part of the job of Mayor, I wish everyone could participate. These events remind us of the quality and character of the community in which we work, live, and raise our families.
They reveal many of the positive things going on around us that are rarely reported in the media.

On September 11, I was invited to speak at the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum as part of the "Scout Salute." This was the 8th year that the Boy Scouts have saluted the flag flying at the Museum in remembrance of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. The continuous salute ran from 7:15 am to 8:00 pm.
