City considers adding a roundabout at Wilson and Remembrance

WALKER, Mich.— Michigan has more than 100 roundabouts, and soon the city of Walker may have another.

The city  is teaming up with the Michigan Department of Transportation to look into the possibility of creating a roundabout at the corner of Wilson Avenue and Remembrance Road.

The area is being considered for reconstruction because it is heavily used by vehicles traveling at high speeds, is not a traditional 90 degree intersection, and has a state trunk line (M-11) that changes direction.

The city and MDOT began considering plans to improve safety and relieve congestion at Wilson and Remembrance last year. The proposed roundabout would likely be created as part of MDOT’s M-11 resurfacing project for 2015.

The city is also considering creating a grand entrance to Walker at the roundabout. For more information about the proposed project, contact the Walker Engineering Department at (616) 791-6792 or MDOT at (517) 373-2090.
