WALKER, Mich.—  A new seasonal celebration will take the ice in Walker this Thursday.

The City of Walker is teaming up with Walker Ice and Fitness Center and the Kent District Library Walker branch to host the inaugural Walker Winter Fest.  Community members are invited to enjoy an evening of free ice skating, a visit from Santa and his reindeer, hot chocolate and holiday music provided by the Kenowa Hills High School marching band and orchestra.  At 7 p.m., the city’s Christmas tree will be lit.

We will be inviting the community to enjoy an evening of free ice skating, live reindeer, hot chocolate, holiday music, and our 7 p.m. tree lighting!  Live performances will be provided by the Kenowa Hills High School marching band and orchestra. Santa will also be visiting from the North Pole. The event will be held at the Walker Ice and Fitness Center at 4151 Remembrance Rd. NW.

“This first annual Walker Winter Fest is off to a great start! As mayor and on behalf of the city commission, we are very excited to support an event that will connect the City to our community,” said Mayor Mark Huizenga.

Winter Fest will take place at the Walker Ice & Fitness Center, which will also have 25 wreaths from local businesses and organizations on display for the inaugural Walker Wreath Competition.  Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite wreath entry.

  • 5:00-6:00 p.m. Free Ice Skating 
  • 5:00-6:30 p.m. Kids Craft Area
  • 5:00-6:30 p.m. Walker Wreath Competition Voting
  • 5:00-6:45 p.m. Santa Photo Booth
  • 6:30-7:30 p.m. Live Reindeer
  • 7:00 p.m. Official City of Walker Tree Lighting
